We repair water tanks.
Your water tank is a significant asset and wherever possible we always recommend prolonging the life of this asset by undertaking reconditioning as soon as is practicable once you become aware of issues. Even hairline cracks need to be checked as they can quickly turn into bigger problems.
Aside from the obvious problem of losing water, exterior cracks are generally also an indication that the reinforcing steel in the tank walls will be exposed and rusting. Unfortunately this rusting steel will be in direct contact with your water supply and this must be remedied as soon as possible to ensure a safe supply of potable water.
While losing water can be costly and unsightly exterior cracks can affect the structural integrity of your water tank; it is also extremely important to consider the health of your water supply stored in this compromised environment.
Choose a team you can trust – our solid plasterers are Licensed Building Professionals with 30 plus years of experience. We have been reconditioning water tanks since 2007 and we’d be happy to help you too.
How do Healthy Water Tanks repair water tanks?
We’ll prepare your water tank by undertaking a full service clean (draining, scrubbing, vacuuming, and rinsing the interior), and we’ll pressure wash to prepare the surfaces. Most of the process happens inside the tank with specialised cement plaster and reinforcing mesh, cracks ground and filled, and interior walls rendered and packed out with an additional 8-10mm of solid plaster. We then apply a special sealant which, when applied to a concrete surface, active chemicals combine with the free lime and moisture present in the capillary tracts of the concrete plaster over time to form an insoluble, crystalline structure. These crystals continuously fill the pores and micro cracks in the concrete plaster preventing any further water ingress. Our final rinses then reduce any lime/alkaline and minimise any odour or taste to the water once your tank is refilled.
But is it safe? Of course. We are proud of our reputation for providing excellent chemical-free water tank cleaning and we were very careful when choosing our repair products and establishing our processes. The products we have chosen to work with are suitable for use with potable water and therefore can be safely used in water storage tanks.
What will I do for water in the meantime?
If the water tank to be repaired is your sole source of water it’s important to note that whilst repairs take place you will be without the use of your water tank for approximately 7 days – weather dependent. During this time we will set you up with a temporary water supply that can be plumbed in, meaning you can operate your household as usual.
